Artistic Director: Terry Hurrell
After training as a music educator in England, Terry and his wife,
Stephanie, came in 1967 to Nova Scotia, where he became deeply
involved in the music scene. An educator, innovator, musical director
and vocalist, Terry found his niche in choral music. He has been the
founding musical director of such diverse groups as the: Lockeport
Male Choir, Liverpool Boys’ Choir, Halifax Boys’ Honour Choir, Queens
County Community Choir, Nova Scotia Youth Chamber Choir and two church
handbell choirs. In January, 2004, Terry helped form Nova Voce, the
provincial men’s choir and is thrilled to be its principal conductor.
Associate Artistic Director: Bill Perrot
Bill Perrot graduated from Westminster Choir College in 1975. He has been involved in school,
church and community choirs since his arrival in Nova Scotia. He has been active in the Nova Scotia
Choral Federation since its inception in 1976, serving three terms as its president. He is a Charter Life
Member of the Association of Canadian Choral Communities and has served on its board as the
coordinator of the National Youth Choir. Bill studied conducting with the late Dr. Elmer Iseler and
with Wayne Riddell.
Bill has conducted the Annapolis Valley Honour Choir since 1998 when he took over from founding
conductor Ross Thompson. Bill is also the founding conductor of Kings Chorale, a community choir
now in its 27th year. In addition he has conducted the Acadia University Chorus, the Acadia Vocal
Ensemble, NSCF’s Youth Choir Camp, and various workshops in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
He has prepared choirs for Symphony Nova Scotia performances as well as concerts with the Nova
Scotia Youth orchestra. In 1994 he was the Master Conductor for the Rotary Youth Choir in Halifax,
now the Nova Scotia Youth Choir. In May of 2008 Bill was given the Alumni Merit Award from
Westminster Choir College for his work with choirs, particularly youth choirs, in Nova Scotia. Last
month Bill took 30 members of Kings Chorale to New York to participate in a performance at Avery
Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center of The Armed Man: A Mass for peace by Karl Jenkins. He is very pleased to
have been appointed as the Associate Artistic Director of Nova Voce.
Accompanist: Lynn Pelton
Lynn Pelton is a graduate of Mt. Allison University, majoring in
performance and Music History. She has been accompanist for several
local choirs and instrumental groups, including the Aeolian Singers,
the N.S. Youth Choir, Halifax County Girls’ Choir, Halifax City
Elementary Girls’ Honor Choir and the Nova Scotia Choral Federation
choir camps. She was a former Music teacher with the Halifax Regional
School Board and has conducted several school choirs that won numerous
awards at the Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival. In addition to
accompanying Nova Voce, she is employed as accompanist for Musical
Friends and Halifax City Schools’ Honour String Program.
